URBE MultiWeb
Help
Questo testo è disponibile anche
in italiano.
URBE MultiWeb is a gateway to one or more URBE archives.
When searching URBE archives through the MultiWeb, you can access
one or more archives at the same time. Archives can be choosen in the
MultiWeb configuration page.
When searching with browse, you can display
separated, merged or compressed results. See the section
display of this page.
Note that UCC cannot be searched at the same time with other
archives. The reason is the type of data that are collected in the
UCC node: see the URBE archives
section of the URBE description page for
details.
Search modes
At now, MultiWeb allows you to retrieve records using these types
of search:
- browse search
- It is like searching a paper card catalog, for instance an
author or a title card catalog where records are stored in
alphabetic order and you access them starting from an entry
point you choose.
Normally you enter the first word of the title or the last name
of the author you are looking for. These catalogs are also
named authority files.
- The result of this kind of search is a list of 20 entries
of the authority file. Records associated with each entry can
be displayed pressing the
button.
- At the bottom of the list, an input field with a preloaded
value allows you to restart browsing from another value or to
display next 20 records.
- Every URBE archive allows searching on these authority
files:
- author
- title
- series
- publishers.
- The UCC archive doesn't have the publishers authority file.
- find search
- This search mode allows to retrieve records on a word
basis. The user enters some words and records containing these
words will be displayed in a short format (92).
- Only one URBE base at a time can be searched in find mode.
- Searches that satisfie more than 200 hits will not display
any record.
- A detailed help is available.
- direct search
- This search type allows you to retrieve a single record
specifing its system number. You can choose among these display
formats:
- ISBD format (35)
- full record in tabular format (01)
- short form (92)
- short form with location (94)
Display Modes
Authority files, i.e. the results of a browse search, can be
displayed in various formats:
- separated
- 5 entries for every archive are displayed;
- at the bottom, an input filed allows you to "more or
restart" from another value of the same authority file;
- merged
- 20 entries from every archive are retrieved by the MultiWeb
server, but only the first 20 are displayed after sorting and
merging;
- an input field allows you to "more or restart" from another
value of the same authority file of the same archives;
- compressed
- this option allows the display of a virtual union
catalog of two or more archives;
- 20 entries are displayed; if two or more entries have the
same key for indexing, they are grouped into one entry;
- this display mode is very similar to browse the UCC
archive;
- an input field allows you to "more or restart" from another
value of the same authority file of the same archives.
Records from an authority files are displayed in a short format
(92). You can press the
button
to expand every record in the ISBD format (35).
Records of UCC are displayed with links to the original records
stored in the URBE archive they come from. If present, press the
button to see the full
record. If no link is present, this means that the URBE archive is
not (yet) connected to the MultiWeb gateway.
A direct search displays a record in the format you choosed. From
a record displayed in full format (01), you can switch to the ISBD
format (35) and viceversa.
